Bread of Life

Established in 1991, Bread of Life gives food and clothing to people in Wichita and the South Central region of Kansas, contributes to relief efforts during and after local disasters and also participates in an annual Thanksgiving food giveaway.  Each year, Bread of Life distributes approximately a million pounds of food to more than 58,000 individuals living in Butler, Cowley, Harvey, Kingman, McPherson, Reno, Rice, Sedgwick and Sumner counties.

In 2006, Bread of Life obtained its own 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service as a public charity.

Our Mission

To be proactive in the city of Wichita and surrounding areas; to engage and equip our community to become stronger, one person at a time.

About Us

Bread of Life, a ministry of Living Word Outreach, has been in operation helping those in need within the community since 1991.  Success in our food distribution process has been proven over our 23-year history.  Providing food and clothing to those who are in need is only a part of our services.  Networking clients to other services within the community and furnishing resource information is all part of our assistance to our clients.  With increased operations, we plan to continue such excellence through maintaining our high standards and routine statistical analysis.

Bread of Life is unique in that during nationwide and worldwide disasters we provide food and clothing  to victims in all parts of the world as our supplies are available.  Locally, Bread of life assists those who are affected by disaster.  Our desire is to help within the community and be a blessing to those in need.

Bread of Life provides avenues for local schools and businesses to give back to their community by volunteering in various ways.  Ninety percent of our operating  personnel are volunteers.  Our holiday giveaway has only been successful due to the volunteers and donations provided by the community.

Those served are:

  • Children - The majority of those we serve are children which comprise 47% of the target population.
  • The Poor
  • The Working Poor
  • Unemployed
  • Those on Fixed Incomes
  • The Elderly
  • All Ethnicities and Cultural Backgrounds
  • All Religions

About Our Director - Donna Pinaire

Donna  Pinaire is the director of Bread of Life. She has served in that capacity since 2006. From 1994 until 2006 she served as a volunteer at Bread of Life.

Her first 2 weeks she worked by giving out bread to people. There was a need for counselors to talk to clients and pray for them. The director asked her to do that. Although she will admit she felt inadequate for that job she said yes. Donna was head counselor for several years before being asked to become the director.

Donna has been married to Fred for nearly 34 years and they have 5 grown children and 5 grandchildren. Fred and the children have all helped at Bread of Life at one time or another. Fred is a huge support and help for Donna.

"I consider it a privilege to be used by The Lord as director at Bread of Life. To minister life to people by giving them hope and encouragement by providing food and clothing is wonderful but to see miracles happen, through answered prayers is out of this world! When people's lives are changed the joy is indescribable."
